the jinx that stole christmas

(Sunday night, on call)

MICHELLE
Honey, I just got called, I’m going to head into the hospital.
There’s a case that’s going to start in about an hour.

JOE
OK. What’s the case?

MICHELLE
A lap appy.

JOE
Oh, well that’s easy, and it should be quick.

MICHELLE
I’m going to kill you now.

JOE
Oops, right! Sorry!

MICHELLE
You’re going to jinx it, you jinxer. OK, I’m getting out of here.
Let me just grab my coffee travel mug.

JOE
You have decaf in there, or full-caf?

MICHELLE
What? I don’t drink decaf. It’s just regular coffee.

JOE
Oh. I thought you might want decaf.

MICHELLE
Why?

JOE
Well, it’s kind of late for coffee. How are you going to fall asleep tonight?

(Silence)

MICHELLE
OK, I was kidding before, but now I really am going to kill you.

Oh heck no! My hubby used to holler as I walked out "hope your shift is quiet!". I almost killed him, too. We never, ever, say the Q word, even at home now.

  3. I still don't understand how he, as a fellow physician, doesn't get this! He's just begging for us to make all kinds of terrible jokes about lazy ophthos...heh.

  4. Definitely not lazy, I just think he's taken so much call in his time (as a fellow he took home call 24/7 for almost two years straight, and even now he's on call 50% if the time) that I think he's become immune to the common call superstitions of jinxes and hexing.

I, however, still believe in a vengeful Call God, who sent me another case after the lap appy. You know, just as a warning shot, to display his power.

Somehow I feel that our male counterparts just dont believe in all the jinxes, no matter how much they have been jinxed.
Where I work, we never put on any red colour attire during oncalls, as that would just mean inviting a 'red bloody' mess. And it has proven to be true time and again, hah!

I had a nurse wish me hope that: " the rest of your night is really quiet" as the elevator closed as I left the surgical floor...
    *sigh*
The next 2 hours in the Case Room proceeded to ensure my belief in the jinx. Did she really have to through in that "Really"...
