Ha! I'm a fellow in a surgical field, and just had a baby. Though the sleep deprivation is similar, having a baby is so much better - since it's YOUR baby, you love them, you know they need to eat, etc, etc. Beats the hell out of getting paged non-stop for silly things, or to see painful ER consults, etc.
(On a side note, now that the comments are back - Michelle, I just wanted to say that I've been a fan for a while. I was a year below you at Columbia, and went to residency with some of your classmates, who introduced me to your blog. Glad things have been going so well for you!)
My mentor has told me that having a baby was "nothing" compared to being a critical care fellow.
ReplyDeleteOf course, he is a man. I wonder if is wife feels the same way.....
