So, you want to see the new cover design? Hot of the presses, from my e-mail to your...eyes. (OK, that metaphor kind of fell apart.)
Honestly--and I know this is a little biased, like a parent saying her own baby is the cutest, but--I LOVE IT. I honestly think it looks better than the original. It retains the essential iconography, it's very clean and eye-catching without being excessive, and most importantly, it's still recognizably the same book. I love it. I hope you do too. And thank you so much to Claire (the designer at Grand Central Publishing) for working so hard to get this in under the wire.
Onward and upward!
I'm so impressed. You handled this gracefully and the cover is great! I wavered, but the decision to capitalize the title in the new version works - almost has the feel of a medical reference manual.
ReplyDeleteCUTE! I love it. Yep, I think it's better than the previous one. Now get that thing published before another injured sock monkey finds his way to the book shelves. Many congratulations to you!
ReplyDeleteI actually like it better than the first! Beautiful!
ReplyDeletesaw this, and a grin popped up on my face -- LOVE IT!
ReplyDelete(my labmate concurs)
As soon as you mentioned how much you liked the new cover I couldn't wait to see it. And yes! It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteawesome and def better than before - a lot less your cliché-white-coat-stethoscope-doctor-iconography that we have all seen a million times.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it
ReplyDeleteMuch more engaging. Love it!

ReplyDeleteOver-the-top, Michelle! It really is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI, too, vote for this one! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteExcellent!
ReplyDeleteSo glad the sock monkey is still with us-It's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYes--better than the original!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT! I didn't think they could do better than the first one, but they did! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI really like it!
ReplyDeleteIt made me smile.
yay, the scutmonkey! it's lovely
ReplyDeleteReally Great - and you are ever the class act.
ReplyDeleteIt does look good.
ReplyDeleteI love it! It's perfect--even better than the first one.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteIt is DEFINITELY BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE, BECAUSE
ReplyDeleteA) YOU CAN SEE THE MONKEY BETTER
B) THE PEDIATRICS THEME COMES ACROSS BETTER
C) THE FUN AND WHIMSY COME ACROSS FROM A STUFFED ANIMAL (RATHER THAN A HUMAN) BEING BANDAGED
CONGRATS!!! YOU SHOULD SIT DOWN AND DRINK SOME LEMONADE B/C YOU MADE LEMONADE OUT OF LEMONS.
SORRY ABOT THE CAPS, JUST FELT LIKE IT!
I love it! It is better than the first one! Can't wait to read it :)
ReplyDeleteLove the irony of the cover image with the title of the book -- bullseye! I know it's a cliche, but everything does happen for a reason. :)
ReplyDeleteOh,yay! This is a terrific cover. I'm so glad it all worked out so well and in a way that you're happy with. So cute!
ReplyDeletecute!
ReplyDeleteyes, and even better than the "old" cover
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!! Well done Michelle
ReplyDeleteLove it! And I do think it's better than the original, it's much more unique. (I know that was terrible grammar, just let me go with it okay)
ReplyDeleteAwesome cover! Definitely retains the same feel as the old cover, without the cliched white coat pocket. LOVE IT!
ReplyDelete"This won't hurt a bit"
ReplyDelete... and then you see the bandaged scutmonkey, who has obviously been hurt going through
"education in medicine and motherhood",
because neither are a breeze in the park, man.
"and other white lies" -- you can see the predominantly white cover, symbolizing all "the other white lies" surrounding the scutmonkey. Like, "hey, this exam is going to be easy", etc. -- what a white lie!!!!
And I love the red -- same color as the American Red Cross found in medicine for centuries. OK, my explanation for the red is corny. But it's a heck of a lot better than, say, baby blue...
I could try to think of more symbolism but I have to get back to work.
In summary, I LOVE YOUR NEW COVER. SO MUCH MORE MEANINGFUL AND AWESOMMMMMMMMMMMMME.
I just realized that I made the scutmonkey sound gloomy. The injury that the scutmonkey endured does not seem too too bad - high chance of recovery by the looks of it.
ReplyDeleteBet the scutmonkey had an awesome time chopping up a karate board (ie acing an exam) or something.
love! it! yes, better than first. cleaner, more eye-catching, more specific to the title. guess everything happens for a reason. congrats on awesome new cover!
ReplyDeleteYay!
ReplyDeleteHaha.. That cover makes me grin. I love it too! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is sort of a random question:
ReplyDeleteDid the designer have a scut monkey sitting around to bandage up or was that all digital?
Fantastic! Glad the whole fiasco turned out well in the end!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! Can't wait to hold a copy in my own hands.
ReplyDeleteLove it!! I think it's more I catching than the original. Can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteNo generic stock photo, no generic white coat, no generic stethoscope, entirely original and true to the spirit of your writing. Far better than the first cover! Virtually perfect!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely pick this up if I found it while wandering around the bookstore. It's inviting.
ReplyDeleteOMG I CAN'T WAIT TO READ YOUR BOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNICE!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Much better than the first one!
ReplyDeleteIt's even more unique than the first one. Poor sock monkey though. Love it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT :)
ReplyDeletei agree that it is lovely and clean! so is it 'safe' this time to show it to the world now? without running the risk of someone accidentally copying it??
ReplyDeletelove it!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this!
ReplyDeletei'm surprised because it's true, it really is better! i kind of thought the original was a smidgen on the generic side, so i'm glad this came out with all the personality and whimsy of your blog coming through!!
ReplyDeleteout of curiosity, what does joe make of all the book stuff? being a surgeon and all, i'm sure his medical ego is well padded (we surgeon-types are GODS, after all) but hey hey, you're kind of a name-brand now!! i expect that women around the nation will be requesting "The Michelle" in hair salons any time now =)
Good things come to those who wait. And to those who are kind enough to let others borrow (ahem) their icon. You rule!
ReplyDeleteLooks adorable! Hope it all goes well!
ReplyDeleteHey Michelle, love your blog and love the new cover of your book! Can't wait to read it ;)
ReplyDeleteScutmonkey FTW!
I love it!!! It looks fabulous -- I agree that it's better than the first cover, and WAAAYYYY better than the copycat cover! I can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteAgreed that its better than the first. Guess you should copyright it asap, eh? Good luck, looks awesome!
