Too easy, Michelle. That's the lipo vacuum. And an old one at that. But they only reason I know is 'cause that's my residency turf :)
Harvester for 'organic' soap makers... hehe.
I have no medical field exposure whatsoever, but that thing looks like a fat-sucker-outter and collection jar to me. So gross!
anyone feel like making soap, a la fight club? =Pps, fantastic blog, michelle! i'm starting general surgery in july and your posts and comics always make me smile =)
The resident biologist would identify that as a vacuum pump, since it looks eerily similar to the one we use to aspirate cell media ... hee.
When I first read Gomco I was confused: what does this instrument have to do with a circumcision?
looks like the same kind of vacuum device we (OB-GYNs) use for D&Cs.
I saw "Gomco" and thought of circs. Clearly not a circ device, but I never knew until this picture led me to Google that "Gomco" is a company, and not an eponym -- unlike everything else in medicine!
Somewhat off-topic but then again maybe not: Do you know what a Piggostat is? http://www.magpiemusing.com/2010/03/murder-syphilis-piggostat.html
You see that round part where the hose attaches to the pump (not the bottle end)? There's a chamois disc in there, that protects the (rotary) pump chamber from stray gunk.Yes, the disc has to be replaced occasionally. Yes, that's a good time to double-glove. Ewww.
